Often referred to as the ‘jewel of Kwazulu Natal’, Greytown lies in the forest-clad, rolling hills of the Natal Midlands, a picturesque little town originally settled during the 1850s and subsequently awash with buildings of note, scenic drives and Boer history.
With its beautiful surroundings - mountains, nature reserve and commonage with an abundant variety of wild flowers, especially ground orchids, as well as rivers, Greytown lends itself to many outdoor activities. There are marked mountain walking trails for the casual walker as well as the experienced hiker.
Visitors can also go horse riding, village cycling, mountain bike riding, camping, fishing and bird watching as well as using 4x4 trails on nearby farms. And most of all, Greytown is the ideal venue to experience and enjoy peace, tranquillity and rest. Outdoor braais and river swimming characterise the hot summer days, while snow on the village mountains in Winter, encourages curling up in front of a log fire.
If you are interested in horses and horse trails you will find yourself hard pressed to find a region that offers more opportunities for both the experienced and the beginner to ride with in this magnificent countryside on horseback.
